El Maltipó es una de esas razas que parecen pintadas con pinceladas de luz. Al ser el resultado del cruce entre el Bichón Maltés y el Caniche, su pelaje puede adoptar una infinidad de tonos y matices, desde los más claros hasta los más profundos y sorprendentes.
Los colores más habituales son el blanco, el crema y el apricot (albaricoque), herencia directa del Maltés y de los caniches más clásicos. Sin embargo, la genética del Poodle aporta una gama mucho más amplia: negro, chocolate, gris, plata, rojo, e incluso tonos diluidos como el “café au lait” o el azul. En algunos casos aparecen combinaciones bicolores o patrones especiales como el “parti” (manchas claras sobre fondo oscuro) o el “phantom”, que muestra zonas sombreadas en hocico, cejas y patas.
Una de las curiosidades más destacadas es que el color del Maltipó puede cambiar con el tiempo. Muchos cachorros nacen con tonos intensos que se aclaran a medida que crecen, sobre todo en las variedades con herencia de Poodle. Este proceso natural da lugar a transformaciones únicas: un cachorro que comienza siendo marrón oscuro puede acabar luciendo un tono crema o dorado suave en la edad adulta.
Más allá de la estética, el color también influye en el cuidado del pelo. Los tonos claros requieren mayor atención para mantener su brillo y limpieza, mientras que los oscuros necesitan productos que realcen su luminosidad. En todos los casos, el cepillado frecuente y una buena alimentación son esenciales para conservar la textura sedosa y el aspecto saludable del Maltipó.
Cada color cuenta una historia, y en el Maltipó esa historia siempre es diferente. No existen dos iguales. Su diversidad cromática no solo es una cuestión de genética, sino también una expresión del carácter alegre, curioso y cambiante que define a esta raza tan querida y moderna.

The Maltipoo is one of those breeds that seem painted with strokes of light. As a cross between the Maltese and the Poodle, its coat can display an extraordinary range of shades — from the softest creams to the deepest, most striking tones.
The most common colors include white, cream, and apricot, inherited from the Maltese and the classic Poodle lines. Yet, the Poodle’s genetics bring an even broader palette: black, chocolate, gray, silver, red, and diluted tones such as “café au lait” or blue. Some Maltipoos also show rare combinations like the “parti” pattern (light patches over a darker base) or the “phantom,” with shaded markings on the muzzle, eyebrows, and legs.
One of the most fascinating traits of the Maltipoo is that its coat color can change over time. Many puppies are born with deep shades that gradually lighten as they grow, especially those with stronger Poodle heritage. A puppy that starts out dark brown can end up displaying a soft golden or creamy tone in adulthood.
Beyond aesthetics, color also influences coat care. Light coats need extra attention to stay bright and clean, while darker ones benefit from products that enhance their natural shine. Regular brushing and a proper diet are essential for keeping the Maltipoo’s coat silky and healthy.
